    Lead

A lead is an identified prospective customer who has shown interest in buying or leasing a car. It typically arrives from a portal such as Bilbasen, from the dealer's own website, by phone, email or a showroom visit. A lead only becomes a sales opportunity once it is recorded, assigned to a salesperson and answered.

The difference between an enquiry and a lead is registration. An email sitting in a personal inbox is not a lead, it is a risk: nobody else can see it, and it disappears when that salesperson is off.

Car leads have an unusually short shelf life. The buyer has typically written to three to five dealers at once, and whoever replies first has a marked advantage.

The practical requirement is therefore not more leads, but one place where all sources land, an assignment rule, a response deadline and a visible status per lead.
