    Mileage overage

    Mileage overage is when a leased car has been driven more kilometres than the contract allows at the point of return. The excess is billed at a fixed price per kilometre and, together with damage, is the most common source of disagreement between customer and lessor at the end of a contract.

    The problem is rarely the amount, but that the customer only sees it on the closing invoice. A surprised customer does not re-lease.

    Ongoing mileage tracking makes the overage visible along the way, so the contract can be adjusted instead of ending in a bill.

    Odometer readings from service and inspection visits are the easiest source of updated figures without asking the customer.
