    Attach rate

Attach rate is the share of sold cars that leave with an attached product, typically a service agreement, warranty or finance. It is calculated as attached products divided by cars sold in the same period, and is used as the key metric for how well the aftersales opportunity is captured.

Attach rate is interesting because it measures something the dealer controls. The price of the car is set by the market, but whether the service agreement comes along is a matter of process.

Measured per salesperson it quickly reveals whether the product is actually being offered. Large spreads between people are almost always a process problem, not a customer problem.

It should be measured on cars sold in the period, not delivered, otherwise delivery times distort the figure.
