    Guide · More service contracts

How do I sell more service contracts? (complete 2026 guide)

Service contracts are the most important recurring revenue a dealership can have, and the most overlooked part of car sales. Here is the 7-step plan to go from 5-10% to 30-50% attach rate, and what it means for the bottom line.

    Short answer (TL;DR)

Service contracts don't convert because salespeople 'forget' to mention them, they don't convert because they aren't part of the automatic flow on the sales contract. Make a standard service contract the default on every car sale, show the monthly price in the offer, and automate re-activation for the ones who say no. CARRUSLiNK turns every sold car into 3 years of recurring revenue at an average of DKK 650/mo, money you were otherwise leaving on the table.

Why you're selling too few service contracts today

    • The salesperson has to remember to mention it, forgotten under pressure or volume
    • Pricing is manual (age, model, km/year, coverage), the salesperson doesn't bother spending 5 min on the maths
    • The contract is a separate PDF that has to be sent afterwards, the customer forgets to return it
    • No follow-up on customers who said no the first time, even though 30% would say yes after 3-6 months
    • The workshop doesn't know which customers have a contract, service bookings aren't upsell opportunities
    • No automatic renewal after 36 months, the customer loses the contract and you lose the customer

7-step plan for 30-50% attach rate on service contracts

    1

    1. Make the service contract part of the sales contract, not an add-on

When the salesperson builds the offer, the contract price is calculated automatically from age, model and km/year. It's shown as the default on the offer: 'Price: DKK 285,000 + 650/mo service contract (can be removed)'. The default effect alone moves conversion from 8% to 35-50%.

    2

    2. Show the monthly price, not the 3-year price

DKK 23,400 for 36 months sounds like a lot. DKK 650/mo sounds like nothing. Use the monthly price in offers, contracts and communication, the customer compares with streaming services, not with a large invoice.

    3

    3. Auto-generate the contract from the customer card

When the customer says yes, the contract is created automatically with car, period, coverage, monthly price, payment details and digital signature, on the same tablet as the sales contract. No separate PDF, no 'I'll send it tomorrow'.

    4

    4. Set up automatic follow-up for 'no thanks' customers

Customer said no? Month 3: SMS 'the contract can be added at the same price until 30 days before first service'. Month 6: 'your first service is in 2 months, want to add it now?'. 30-40% of those who said no, say yes within 12 months.

    5

    5. Let the workshop sell service contracts at bookings

Every time a customer books a service, reception sees whether there is a contract. If not: 'Did you know a service contract covers the next 3 years of service for DKK 650/mo? Want an offer ready when you pick the car up?'. The workshop is your most overlooked sales channel.

    6

    6. Automatic renewal 6 months before expiry

When a contract approaches expiry, the system automatically sends a renewal offer, typically with an adjustment for the car's current age/km. The customer is used to having the contract, losing it is harder than renewing it.

    7

    7. Measure conversion per salesperson and per car model

Which salespeople convert 50%? Which 5%? Which models do customers say yes to more often? Once you know, you can coach, adjust standard pricing and focus effort. Conversion typically improves 5-10 percentage points in 3 months.

What service contracts do for the bottom line

    DKK 650/mo × 36 mo = 23,400/car

On a dealership selling 30 cars/mo at 40% attach: 12 new contracts/mo × DKK 650 = DKK 7,800 extra MRR every month. After 12 months: DKK 93,600 in accumulated monthly revenue.

    Recurring revenue for 3 years

Every car becomes 3 years of predictable MRR, not a one-off. That stabilises cash flow and makes the business significantly more valuable at exit.

    Guaranteed workshop bookings

Customers with a contract come in 1-2 times a year. Workshop utilisation rises, and every booking is an upsell opportunity (tyre change, glass, valet).

    Higher CLTV, typically +25-40%

Customers with a service contract have 25-40% higher lifetime value than those without, because they come in regularly, build trust and trade in with you next time.

    Auto-pricing from day one

The salesperson never has to say 'I'll have to calculate that'. The system computes the monthly price instantly from age, model and km/year, on the tablet at the customer's side.

    Automatic recall + renewal

The system calls the customer in for service before the km threshold, and sends a renewal offer 6 months before expiry. Nothing gets forgotten, and the customer stays with you.
