# Trade-in

> A trade-in is the customer's current car, taken by the dealer as part payment for the new one. The dealer assesses condition, mileage, history and market price, sets a trade-in value and offsets it in the deal. The trade-in immediately becomes the dealer's next stock unit.

A trade-in is both a sales tool and a purchase. Value it too high and the margin on the deal disappears; value it too low and the sale goes to the dealer offering a bit more.

What decides the outcome is how fast the appraisal can be made, and whether it rests on real data: registry data, service history, inspection reports and realised market prices rather than gut feeling.

The trade-in is also a lead. The customer handing over a car today is the customer who changes car again in three to four years, and the incoming car must be stocked, prepared and advertised within days.

## In CARRUSLiNK

CARRUSLiNK pulls registry data on the trade-in from the VIN, keeps the appraisal on the deal, and creates the car as stock with a preparation task once the contract is signed.
